German carmaker Volkswagen is launching its internationally renowned model Beetle in on December 4 in grand event to be held in Mumbai. However, buyers keenly awaiting the launch should also expect its price to burn a hole in their pockets.
The original VW Beetle first came out in the early 1930s, and in the several decades that have passed since then, the car has evolved and garnered a cult status for itself all over the world.
The Volkswagen New Beetle was introduced by Volkswagen in 1998, drawing heavy inspiration from the design of the original Beetle. Unlike the classic Beetle, the New Beetle has its engine in the front and luggage storage in the rear.
Of the different Beetle variants available worldwide, we believe VW, in , will launch the model with the 2-litre, 115 bhp petrol engine, which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
Other features include Front dual airbags, Remote Central Locking, Power Steering and 15 inch alloy wheels.
This car costs the equivalent of about Rs 10.25 lakh in Europe, so Indian prices could be in the region of Rs 20-22 lakh. This, of course, is because VW will import this car as a CBU and will have to pay more than 100% import duty on the vehicle. It will be the direct rival for Fiat 500.
There are 6 models Beetle-S, Beetle-S PZEV, Beetle-S Convertible, Beetle-S PZEV Convertible, Beetle-Blush edition Convertible, and Beetle- Blush edition PZEV convertible.
