2022 Harley-Davidson Nightster unveiled
The new Nightster is the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle to house the company’s new 975cc liquid-cooled Revolution Max 975T V-Twin motor. The 60-degree V-twin engine, that’s based on the bigger Revolution Max 1250T (seen in the Pan America and Sportster S bikes), produces a decent 90PS at 7,500rpm and 95Nm at 5,750rpm. This DOHC power mill also gets a variable valve timing system and comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slip clutch.
Variants :The Nightster comes with three ride modes – Sport, Road and Rain with each mode altering the engine map, braking, ABS and traction control of the motorcycle. The bike also features Harley’s drag-torque slip control system which adjusts torque delivery to avoid excessive rear wheel slip during gear changes and in tricky riding conditions.
Harley-Davidson has introduced a new Sportster from the brand, touted the 2022 Nightster. In the company lineup, the motorcycle is positioned below the Sportster S and gets a host of electronic rider aids and features. It is expected to be offered in the Indian market soon.
Chassis : The bike’s chassis is a quite similar to the steel tubular unit of the bigger Sportster S which uses the engine as a stressed member. This means that the new Harley Nightster weighs in at just 218kg, which is a substantial difference over the older-gen Sportster bikes.
In terms of design, the 2022 Nightster conveys the classic Sportster model styling cues with exposed rear shock absorbers. It also gets air intake cover, solo seat, chopped fenders and speed screen recall elements inspired from the recent Sportster models. The 2022 Harley-Davidson Nightster gets 3 body paint options – Black, Red and Grey.
At the heart and at the centerpiece of the design of the Nightster, is the new Revolution Max 985T engine; a 975cc liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-Twin that produces 88.7bhp at 7500rpm. The motorcycle gets 3 ride modes – Road, Rain and Sport where every ride mode has a specific combination of engine braking, power, ABS and TCS settings that the rider can adjust as per his/her requirement. The powertrain gets a textured metallic charcoal powder coat finish with gloss black inserts.
Suspensions : Suspension duties are handled by a 41mm Showa telescopic fork and a monoshock, while a single a single 320mm disc with an axially-mounted four-piston caliper and a single-piston caliper and a 260 mm rear disc manage the stopping power.
Safety Features : In terms of safety, the 2022 Harley-Davidson Nightster gets antilock braking system, traction control system and drag-torque slip control system. It also gets a round 4.0-inch-diameter analog speedometer with an LCD display mounted on the handlebar riser and LED lighting.
The Nightster is expected to launch abroad very soon, following which it will make its way to India in the next couple of months. We expect the bike cost around 12lakhs ex-showroom when it does.
