TVS Motors has come out with fresh looking two wheeler with the focus on Alia Bhatt -Varun fan group -Youngistan .
Scooty Zest 110 is designed aimed at the 18-25 age group and is an expansion of the Scooty brand. But it is better than elder sisters : Pep+ and the Streak.
Scooty Zest 110 is a Variomatic scooter:
Variomatic is the stepless, fully automatic transmission of the Dutch car manufacturer DAF, originally developed by Hub van Doorne: this consists of a "V" shaped drive belt and two pulleys, each of two cones, whose effective diameter can be changed so that the "V" belt runs nearer the spindle or nearer the rim, depending on the separation of the cones. These are synchronized so that the belt always remains at the same optimal tension.
It is a standard part of all common scooters since 1985, and several companies such as Malossi, Polini, Doppler and Stage6 are offering tuning clutches and variomatic for most common 50, 70 and 125 cc scooters
Zest 11 comes with CVTi engine which produces 8.02 PS at 7500 RPM and 8.7 Nm tourque at 5500 RPM.
Zest 110 comes with 109.7 cc CVTi engine
A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is a transmission that can change seamlessly through an infinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values. This contrasts with other mechanical transmissions that offer a fixed number of gear ratios. The flexibility of a CVT allows the input shaft to maintain a constant angular velocity.it can provide a cheap automatic gear solution by enabling the engine to run at its most efficient revolutions per minute (RPM) for a range of vehicle speeds, allowing a small vehicle (CVT can't handle high torques) to have an acceptable fuel efficiency at low speed.
Alternatively, it can be used to maximize the performance of a vehicle by allowing the engine to turn at the RPM at which it produces peak power. This is typically higher than the RPM that achieves peak efficiency. Finally, a CVT does not strictly require the presence of a clutch. Nevertheless, in some vehicles (e.g. motorcycles) a centrifugal clutch is added,to facilitate a "neutral" stance, which is useful when idling or manually reversing into a parking space.
CVTs have been used in aircraft electrical power generating systems since the 1950s and in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Formula 500 race cars since the early 1970s. So, technologically Zest 110 can be rated on much higher scale when compared to vehicles in similar category.
Compared with Pep+ and Streak
As compared to Pep+ ( Engine displacement 87.8 cc) and the Streak ( Engine Displacement 87.8 cc) Zest 110 has much powerful engine. Zest comes with Single cylinder 4 stroke, CVTi air cooled engine and has Displacement 109.7 cc Power in KW @ rpm, 5.9 @ 7500 ,Torque in Nm @ rpm , 8.8 @ 5500
As regards wheelbase and seat height, Zest 110 is more suitable to the Alia- Fan club. Zest has large wheelbase of 1250 (Pep+ 1230 & the streak 1230). Larger wheel base marginal helps in getting more fuel avearage. However seat height is much positive aspect in Zest 110. Compared to 1065 mm hieght of Pep+ & the Streak, Zest has seat height of 760 mm which is highly suitable for 18-25 age group girls.
Fuel efficiency 62 km/lts compared with others
If claimed fuel efficiency is delivered then TVS Zest is the best of the lot , when compared with TVS siblings Pep+, Streak and Wego, Zest claims much better fuel efficiency. It claims more efficiency when compared to Yamaha Ray or Yamaha Ray Z , Suzuki Lets because of its lesser engine displacement and lesser kerb weight
Price Rs. 42300 : Which other models are available in this price range ?
Can be compared with Suzuki LET`s which is priced around Rs. 50000 and has engine capacity of 112.80 cc and fuel efficiency of 49.75 kms
Also can be compared with Yamaha Ray and Yamaha Ray Z which are priced around Rs. 53300 and Rs. 55650 and have engine capacity of 113 cc but their fuel efficiency is around 42 kms.
